Council for Aging holding collection drive for elderly persons

By BBN Staff:The National Council for Aging is inviting the public to join in their initiative to be held from May 8 to June 16, 2017.

Elderly Abuse Awareness Day and is being observed under the theme “One Person, One Action, One Nation United Against Elder Abuse”.

To commemorate the day, the council will be conducting a One Action Goods Drive, collecting adult pampers, bath soaps and Ensure nutritional drinks/shake.

Elderly abuse can be financial, emotional, physical and sexual. It also includes people who are neglected and those who neglect themselves (self-neglect).

While studies show that most abusers are family members, trusted professionals may be perpetrators as well as communities that isolate its older members.
Drop off boxes will be set up in local stores in Belmopan namely Brodies Supermarket , Courts- Belmopan Branch and the National Council on Ageing.
All goods collected during the drive will be distributed to older persons in communities.The public is encouraged to contact the council at 822-1546 for any additional information about this initiative .
