By BBN Staff: The National Garifuna Council (NGC) issued a release yesterday saying that it condemns and is disheartened to listen to the derogatory comments against Garinagu made by the President of the Public Service Union (PSU), Eldred Neal.

“It is disappointing to hear racist remarks from the leader of the Public Service Union who blatantly declared that they are in a cultural war with the Garinagu,” the release states.

The NGC says that it is unacceptable and the council supports the letter from the Concerned Members of Council of Management.

The council stated that Eldred Neal’s remarks compromise his position and effectiveness as president in serving a multicultural organization as the PSU.

“How can he represent a Garifuna public officer in his/her fight for justice and equality at the workplace?,” the council asks.

” In light of the decade of Afro Descendants (2015-2024) we should unite together to discuss how we can deal with the issues affecting us as blacks in Belize. This is not the time to create a division among us,” it said.

The NGC said it is “proud of what we accomplished and what our ancestors fought for to be united. This incident should be flame that will ignite the fire for us to be unified today and preserve what our ancestors worked for us to keep.”
