By BBN Staff: On Monday May 22, police responded to a robbery at San Isidro Village, Toledo District and visited the area where Mercedes De Jesus Madril, a 60-year-old Guatemalan unemployed of Trio Village was seen along the Southern Highway.
Madril reported that he left his home in his Ford Ranger pickup truck at 10:15 a.m. en route to Bella Vista when a man stopped him just after crossing Swasey Bridge.
Madril reported that he stopped for the person thinking he wanted a ride when another man came out of the bushes with a sawed off shotgun in his hand.
The men then robbed him of his wallet that was in between the seat, took $340 and threw his wallet on the ground.
Madril told police that he then grabbed the weapon and a struggle ensued where the shotgun went off firing into the roof of his vehicle leaving a hole.
Madril said that when he let go of the weapon, the men then left on a motorcycle in the direction of Swasey.
Madril called the police for assistance.
Police investigations continue.
