By BBN Staff: Two bus drivers will be charged by the Officers of the Department of Transport for traffic offenses.
Oscar Chen of Chen’s bus company will be charged for failure to produce road service permit.
Santiago Cucul of Cucul’s bus company will be charged for carrying excessive passengers on a public service vehicle and failure to keep certificate of registration in motor vehicle at all times.
Both drivers appeared on Friday, May 19 at the Punta Gorda Town Magistrate’s Court and plead guilty to the offenses.
They were fined $200 plus $5 cost of court for each offense, or in default two months imprisonment.
The Department of Transport reminds the public that all bus operators and drivers who risk the safety of passengers will be held accountable for their actions and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Drivers and other road users are hereby reminded to comply with the rules of the road and other traffic laws of Belize.
