By BBN Staff: Cherie Nisbet, former ambassador of Belize to Taiwan is at the Senate Special Select committee testifying today.

Nisbet served as ambassador from 2011-2015 and in an email sent to the CEO of Immigration on September 16, 2013, she states that Deputy Mayor of Belize City, Eric Chang called her in “panic” to request that she urgently issue a visa to two South Korean nationals who needed to go to Belize the following day.

Nisbet in her email, said that she told Chang she needed the reason for the trip to Belize and all forms needed to be filled out.

Since Chang could not come up with a response, and reason for the emergency, he told her that he would contact a Minister in Belize who would then issue the visas upon their arrival in Belize.

Nisbet said that she then got a call from Taiwan Immigration telling her that Chang had requested to visit a Belizean national in prison and it was “inadvisable “ for him to do so. The CEO then called Nisbet and thanked her for submitting the report.
