NHC monitoring two tropical systems

Posted: Friday, June 16, 2017. 10:25 am CST.

By BBN Staff: The National Hurricane Center (NHC) is monitoring two tropical systems with the potential to impact the Caribbean over the next several days.

According to the NHC, cloudiness and showers are expected associated with a tropical wave located southwest of the Cabo Verde islands. The showers have become better organized and additional slow development is possible during the next few days.

A broad area of low pressure is expected to form over the northwestern Caribbean Sea and the Yucatan peninsula during the next day or two.  Conditions appear to be favorable for gradual development of this system while it moves slowly northwestward into the southern Gulf of Mexico early next week. There is a 60 percent formation chance throughout the next 5 days.

The general situation for the next 24 hours in Belize is for mostly moist and unstable conditions to continue over the weekend.
