By BBN Staff: A freak storm passing through the Western Cayo District brought with it much rainfall and some heavy gusty winds, particularly in the San Ignacio area.
An image downloaded from the weatherbug google app shows that the San Ignacio area and Western Cayo were subjected to very intense lightening. The image shows well over 300 lightening strikes hitting San Ignacio, Benque Viejo and the villages surrounding these 2 towns during the half an hour period from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.
Residents in San Ignacio who were doing their weekend market and grocery shopping were seen scampering for shelter. Flash flooding is expected to occur particularly as the rains persist into the afternoon.
