By BBN Staff: The 2017 US State Department report on Trafficking in Persons is out.

The report indicates that again Belize is ranked in the lowest tier three because,

“The Government of Belize does not fully meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking and is not making significant efforts to do so.”

“Belize is a source, transit, and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to sex trafficking and forced labor”, the report revealed.

It added, “Sex trafficking and forced labor of Belizean and foreign women and girls, primarily from Central America, occur in bars, nightclubs, brothels, and domestic service.”

Shockingly the report mentioned that trafficking was facilitated by those in the highest echelons of society including government officials.

Of all Central American nations, Belize was ranked the worst.
