By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Economic Development & Petroleum and the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth & Sports have signed a contract with GFA Consulting Group of Germany for BZ$2.6 million for a TVET Capacity Building and Professional Development Training Programme.

The GFA Team has mobilized to Belize to begin the inception phase of this 18-month contract with their partners, Sequa of Germany and the University of the West Indies.

This Training Contract, funded by the European Union under the Banana Accompanying Measures 2013, has as its objective to increase the capacity of TVET Management and Instructors in the northern Toledo and Stann Creek Districts to deliver quality training to students.

This will support the implementation of the Belize Education Sector Strategy, which has identified improving the quality and relevance of TVET as an appropriate vehicle for ensuring that a greater number of graduates gain appropriate employment in work related to their qualification, or progress to further education and training.

The Training Contract will lay the foundation for the national roll out of a modern TVET training programme by building the capacity of local teacher training institutions and implementing a professional development programme for TVET Management, Instructors, and Private Sector representatives.

Teacher training institutions in Belize will benefit from the contract by having their teacher training TVET courses reviewed and updated and staff trained. It is foreseen that a minimum of 60 instructors and vocational teachers will be awarded a Diploma in CBET which will include an Industry attachment. A minimum of 45 Managers/Principals/Head of Departments will be awarded a Leadership Certificate. Considering the invaluable contribution of the Private Sector to the TVET Sector, 60 Private Sector representatives will be trained in support of the implementation of the Technical Vocational Training Programme.

The Government of Belize is looking forward to a fruitful relationship with GFA Consulting Group.
