By BBN Staff: After missing seven meetings of the House of Representatives, former Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega, made an appearance at this week’s meeting.
Vega, who resigned from Cabinet and politics on a whole last year, took a prominent seat at the meeting, sitting in the front row. Vega, who holds no portfolio, sat in the eighth seat, only four places down from where he sat when he was the Minister of Natural Resources.
Though he had a prominent place, Vega’s return was in appearance only. He did not make any submissions, did not rise to speak on any matter being discussed, and did not stay for the entire meeting.
Vega resigned in 2016, after information surfaced that he, through the Ministry of Natural Resoruces, compensated his son $400,000 for a piece of undeveloped land that the ministry had sold to him, but later discovered it already had an owner.
Authorities say that they have been looking for Andre Vega to serve him process papers so he can go to court over the issue and return the money. Vega has yet to make that repayment.
