By BBN Staff: World renowned Soca artist, Destra Garcia, lost a negligence civil suit in Belize, for injuring Belizean, Fernando Oliva, during a September 2015 concert.

The Supreme Court accepted Oliva’s claim that Destra was negligent when she jumped onto his torso while on stage, rupturing his spleen. Olivia’s attorney, Steve Perrera, said that the court ruled she would have to pay over $16,000 in damages.

He added that he is working with attorneys in Destra’s home country, Trinidad, to try and get the judgement enforced in that jurisdiction. Like all court matters, Destra has the right to appeal, the decision; however, it has yet to be seen if she will.

An amateur video that surfaced shortly after the concert, showed Destra  and Oliva on stage, with her instructing him to lie down on the ground. She proceeded to sing and dance on him, but he kept on interrupting her making various gestures. After repeatedly telling him to hold still, Destra jumped into the air landing on his torso.

Oliva was rushed to the hospital for emergency medical attention shortly after.
