By BBN Staff: Two American nationals residing in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye are currently in police custody pending investigation under suspicion they may have been involved in the sudden death of their 13-year-old daughter.
According to police, officers were called out to a hotel about a mile north of San Pedro town to investigate a sudden death. There, cops found 13-year-old Faye Lin Cannon dead with bruises all over her hands and feet.
The mother told cops that the girl had waken up around 7:00 for water then went back to bed. Her husband later went to check on Cannon when he realized she was unresponsive, the mother said. According to police, the mother also reported that the girl was mentally ill and suffered attacks in which she would violently throw herself into walls. The mother further added that Cannon had locked herself away in her room for three weeks and refused to eat. She also told police of another incident on June 3, in which Cannon complained she had difficulty breathing.
The girl’s body was transported to the morgue of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where a post-mortem confirmed that Cannon had been physically and sexually abused. No charges have yet been levied against the parents.
