BDF conducts first rescue mission using UH1H Helicopter

By BBN Staff: The Ministry of Defense reported that the Belize Defense Force Air Wing (BDF AW) carried out its first rescue mission using its new UH1H helicopter on July 8^th, 2017.

The mission was carried out in the village of San Benito Poite in the Toledo district where three children, ages 10, 14 and 16 were rescued.

The three children went on a fishing expedition and were stranded on the far bank of the Poite River that had crested above normal due to a flash flood.

As a result, the Hammock Bridge was damaged making it unusable and the main bridge was submerged making it impassable.
