By BBN Staff: Two Guatemalan bandits put their lives on the line on Saturday when they stole a pickup truck from a Belizean man and then engaged in a gun fight with police.

One of the men succumbed to his injuries while the other is still receiving medical treatment.

The men believed to have stolen the vehicle to sell in Guatemala as a part of a cross border vehicle ring between Melchor De Mencos, Guatemala and Cayo District, Belize.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Allen Whylie, it is very unfortunate that one of the Guatemalans lost his life.

He told the press that authorities in Belize and Guatemala are cooperating to solve the cross border vehicle thefts.

According to Whylie, cooperation with Guatemalan authorities has resulted in several stolen vehicles being returned to Belize.
