ComPol says Major Crimes are Down

By BBN Staff: Yesterday, Commissioner of Police, Allen Whylie updated the nation on crime statistics for the period – January to June 2017.

Although there has been numerous documented bloodshed across the country, police statistics showed that there was a slight decrease in murder.

From January to June of this year, there were 70 murders. During this same period last year, there were 73 murders.

However, police have only made 31 arrests.

For the period under review, there were 98 cases of robbery in 2016 compared to 92 cases in 2017.

For burglary, there were 389 cases reported up to June 2016 compared to 329 at the end of June 2017

For theft, there were 51 cases reported at the end of June 2016 compared to 34 cases at the end of June 2017.

For the total number of major incidents reported at the end of June 2016, statistics reveal that there were 1,070 cases.

Up to June 2017, there were only 866 major incidents reported.
