By BBN Staff: Sixteen young soccer players from Belize are in Colorado Springs, Colorado to take part in Rush Fest, an international youth soccer camp and for most of the Warriors FC players, the trip marks their first trip by air and first time in the United States.
The Warriors FC players are at-risk youth from across Belize. Playing as Rush Belize, the 12 and 13-year-olds will have the opportunity train with and compete against U.S. teams and teams from other countries as part of the event.
In its first match-up, on July 10, Rush Belize defeated Michigan Rush 8-0. Under the leadership of Country Director Daniel Fabro, Warriors FC recently became the Belize affiliate of Rush Soccer.
The Colorado-based club is committed to the development of healthy youth through the game of soccer. Its mission is to promote “the physical, mental and social well-being of our children” and provide members with “the finest soccer experience possible, teaching the fundamental skills of the game and developing athletes through organized leagues, teams, tournaments, training, coaches and athletic facilities.”
In order to get the team and four coach-chaperones to Rush Fest, Warriors FC raised money through donations from individuals and businesses. Rush Soccer is providing lodging, some meals and game uniforms, but Warriors FC had to find support to pay for air travel, additional food, passports, visas and other expenses.
“Just getting here is a win for us,” Fabro said. “We adults are as excited for our players to enjoy their first trip the U.S. as we are for Rush Fest. The entire experience will be life-changing for these kids, most of whom come from challenging backgrounds. We are so grateful to our sponsors for helping make this trip a reality.”
