By BBN Staff:Twenty year old Dashay Williams has contacted our newsroom complaining of alleged police abuse.

According to the Belize City resident, almost two weeks ago police from the MIT unit detained him but instead of taking him to the police station, they purportedly took him to a feeder road near the Haulover Bridge on the Philip Goldson Highway.

He told BBN that one of the officers fired a barrage of gunshots over his head and threatened that they would have murdered him if no one had seen when they carried him.

He alleged that since that incident, he has been targeted and harassed by police. He simply wants to be left alone, he told BBN.

According to him, just last night police from the MIT visited again for him but because members of his community lashed out against the officers they sped off.

When we contacted officers assigned to the Professional Standards Branch they indicated that Williams would have to file a formal complaint before police could take action.

Williams has not yet done so.
