Albert Constituency reportedly backs Leslie over Willoughby

By BBN Staff: The UDP City Council Convention is more than a month away but there are already rumblings in two camps jostling for leadership.

That is because Councilor Dion Leslie posted to his Facebook page that he has the support of the UDP’s Albert Constituency Executive and the Area Representative, Tracy Panton.

He thanked them for their, “unanimous endorsement,” of his candidacy.

Sources close to Philip Willoughby told BBN that they found that shocking because that constituency had been the center of Willoughby’s political career.

He had eyes on that constituency more than 4 years ago when he had entered a convention to challenge then incumbent Area Representative, Herman Longsworth.

However, Longsworth and Willoughby, who enjoyed the support of his former Deputy Party Leader, Gaspar Vega, were both put aside by the party higher ups and made to support the candidacy of Panton who was elected in the November 2015 elections.

If anything, this convention will prove interesting as sitting Mayor, Darrel Bradley keeps his cards hidden.
