By BBN Staff: WestJet’s new direct flight from Calgary, Canada to Belize adds to the already positive outlook for Belize’s tourism industry.
According to the Belize Tourism Board (BTB), the country had already seen a marked growth in visitor arrivals for the first half of 2017 from both overnight and cruise ship passenger arrivals. Overnight arrivals grew by 7.8 percent for the first half of 2017, while cruise passenger arrivals went up by 3.1 percent.
The two new flights from Calgary, announced this weekend, will give ever more access to Canadian travelers, which represent 7 percent of the total visitors to Belize.
The new once-weekly flight will take off on November 3, adding more options to Canadian travelers, who can already enjoy a Toronto-to-Belize flight from WestJet.
Canadian travelers will also have even more access to Belize, as Air Canada has announced direct flights to Belize, also starting in November. The announcements follow years of work on the part of Belize’s tourism industry authorities and stakeholders to market Belize as a “must go” destination.
The BTB has been actively seeking to increase Belize’s market share in Canada, to increase the number of visitors.
