By BBN Staff: Following the retirement of former Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lawrence Sylvester, the Government of Belize has selected Ambassador H.E. Patrick Andrews to take his place.

Andrews was brought in from a diplomatic post as Belize’s permanent representative of Belize to the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington D.C., which he took up in august 2015. Andrews is a career banker, graduating from Kansas State University, graduating in 1973 with a B.S. in economics, then moving on to work for Scotiabank, formerly the “Bank of Nova Scotia.”

Andrews worked in the banking sector in countries such as the Bahamas, Grenada, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Puerto Rico and Canada.

He did have some diplomatic experience before taking up his ambassador’s post as he was named Canada’s honorary consul in Belize in 2007.

Sylvester took over as CEO for Foreign Affairs in 2004, after his predecessor, Alexis Rosado, left to become Belize’s ambassador to Guatemala.
