Security Guard kills intruder in Independence, police investigating

By BBN Staff: A police investigation is currently underway in the Intermediate Southern Formation, after an on-duty security guard allegedly killed one of two intruders on a shrimp farm in Independence village on Saturday night.

According to police reports, at around 11:48 p.m. on Saturday night 60-year-old security guard, Gerardo Choc was on duty at one of the ponds of Aqua Mar shrimp farm when he noticed two intruders on the property. According to the report, Choc said the men advanced toward him with with a machete so he drew his licensed 16-gauge shotgun. Choc fired a single shot in their direction as they tried to run away, killing one of the men.

When police arrived at the Independence Poly Clinic, the deceased man was seen with multiple shotgun pellet wounds to the upper part of the back and behind the head. He was pronounced dead on arrival at 3:35 a.m. Sunday. At around 2:00 on Sunday afternoon, the body was identified as that of Wilfred Malcom Jr., 25, from Bella Vista village in Toledo. The body was identified by Malcom’s brother-in-law, PC Roger Jaime.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
