By BBN Staff: Two Guatemalan nationals were held up at gun point in Belize City on Saturday, in an incident which turned deadly for one of the men while the other lived to tell the story.
7News reported that 46 year-old Walter Lopez and 39 year-old Josue Anitai Arizandieta, were near the Lord Ridge Cemetery in Belize City when they were approached by a dark complexioned man.
The man pulled out a silver pistol and demanded cash and other valuables.
Lopez reportedly handed over a hundred dollars in US currency.
His friend Arizandieta, however, decided to fight the robber.
That was when he was shot twice to the stomach and once to the leg. The robber stole his cell phone and made off with close to a thousand dollars in cash. The injured Guatemalan national was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he died.
