By BBN Staff: The Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) has reported that the Phillip Goldson International Airport will close operations at 5 pm today, due to the approaching Tropical Storm Franklin.
The DCA went on to say that it will resume operations once the “All Clear” has been given after the storm. United Airlines and Southwest Airlines flights for today have already been canceled because of the closure.
The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) issued a statement this afternoon, calling on all tourism stakeholders to take note of the closure. The BTB also called on its partners to take every effort to ensure their personal safety and that of their family and guests and also of their properties.
The airport shutdown is the latest in a line of shutdowns taking effect since this morning. The airport shutdown follows the north-bound bus run cut off which happened at 3 p.m. All other bus runs will cease at 6 p.m.
