By BBN Staff: Today Shyne Barrow announced his resignation from his post as CEO of the Belizean Society of Composers Authors Publishers (BSCAP).

In a letter leaked to the media, it was revealed that Barrow’s predecessor Heather Cunningham, the current chairwoman of the BSCAP board, is claiming $600,000 in expenses and salary from 2010-2013.

According to Barrow, there is nothing to show how she arrived at those figures.

He expressed that under her watch, the nation was still not copyright compliant.

According to him, at this year’s BSCAP AGM, a meager, $2,500 was being proposed to be distributed to BSCAP members.

That would result in, “$12 per writer member and a little more for producer members.”

According to Barrow, he, “cannot defend the approach of administrative expenses first and BSCAP members last!”

He went on to say that BSCAP had spent $4,000 on travel expenses for Cunningham to fly to Belize once a year while all the members got $2,500.

Barrow explained that he only decided to join BSCAP to empower artists, not himself.

He is of the view that BSCAP is not looking after the best interests of the Belizean artists.
