By BBN Staff: Four people, one of whom is a police officer, are on bail this week after they were caught smuggling an illegal firearm from Guatemala.
Police Constable, Franklin Ramirez, Trevor Dean Brown, Elorey Graham, and a 17-year old minor, are on bail valued at $6,000, under the condition that they report to the Raccoon Street police station every Friday, attend all adjournments of the case against them, and that they do not interfere with the prosecution’s witnesses.
Attorneys Oscar Selgado and Herbert Panton applied for Supreme Court bail and Justice Herbert Lord heard the applications. They are scheduled to appear in the Belmopan Supreme Court on November 9.
The group was caught by the Police Mobile Interdiction Team on August 7, with a .9mm Berretta pistol and three magazines hidden in a compartment within the dashboard.
Acting Officer Commanding the Police Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Edward Broaster explained that the incident has the elements of a sophisticated operation, suggesting a joint enterprise of cross border weapons trafficking.
