Six Corozal students get scholarships

 By BBN Staff: Six students from the Corozal District have received scholarships courtesy five-time Mr. Belize, Rigo Vellos and his gym, Spartan Fitness, located in Corozal town.

Yesterday morning Vellos presented the official letters to two primary school and four high school students, which commits to covering their cost of tuition once they keep their grades up and provide community service hours monthly.

In addressing the scholarship recipients, Vellos challenged the students to keep their educational goals as their number one priority. He also shared with the students that the drive to dream has been one of the key factors to achieving success.

“Don’t be afraid to dream big, but it must start with achieving success in education,” Vellos remarked.

The students expressed gratitude to Vellos for the assistance provided by Spartan Fitness Gym. One of the recipients, 13 year old Dale Centeno, who will be attending Corozal Community College when school resumes later this month, presented Vellos with a personalized Certificate of Recognition for dedication and excellence.

Vellos indicated to BBN that the programme received 11 applications including 2 for primary school, 8 for high school and 1 for the University of Belize. The programme initially offered four primary school and one high school scholarships.

However, as a result of the volume of applications for high school where the cost of tuition varies approximately between $500 and $800, Vellos said he had to seek more support to cover the four scholarships offered. However, because there were unsuccessful applicants, Vellos has launched an appeal on his Facebook page seeking partners to assist the remaining ones with
partial or full tuition support.
