By BBN Staff: Today, members from the Road Safety Project Management Unit, Belmopan Police, the National Transport Department, and the Belmopan Municipal Traffic Department met to discuss traffic management on the George Price Highway and within Belmopan.

Sr. Supt Howell Gillett said that based on statistics, serious and fatal accidents occur mostly during the weekends.

“Coming out of the meeting we have agreed to increase patrols during peak hours on the Western corridor and also on the Hummingbird and inside the city. Motorcycle offenses will also be targeted. Road users are reminded that 25 miles per hour for populated areas and 55 miles on the highways. A life lost is always regretted,” Gillett said.

Gillett further added that he is hopeful that these new measures that will be implemented will lead to less accidents in their jurisdiction.
