GOB to pass bill to decriminalize 10 grams of weed today

By BBN Staff: A special sitting of the House of Representatives is in session today in Belmopan.

Eight bills will be introduced today including an amendment to the Misuse of Drugs Bill.

The bill proposes to “decriminalize the possession of cannabis in amounts not exceeding ten grams, to provide for the imposition of monetary and non-recordable penalties for the possession of cannabis in such amounts occurring on school premises, in specified circumstances, to decriminalize the smoking of cannabis on private premises.”

The amount of 10 grams and less of cannabis will be decriminalized in Belize if the bill is passed. The bill is going through its first reading today. BBN will have more updates on the House meeting throughout today.
