/>By BBN Staff: Last Friday, a Toyota Hilux was stolen from a mechanic shop in San Ignacio.
According to police reports, the Hilux was found in Melchor de Mencos and Guatemalan authorities were making arrangements with Belizean officials to return the vehicle.
However, according to a report from 7 News, the person who now has the Hilux took it to the border to pay duty on the Guatemalan side, which is when Guatemalan officials noticed the truck. Belizean police were notified but the new owner had already paid duty at the Guatemalan bank.
The Ministry in Guatemala has opened a case that has to conclude before the vehicle is handed over.
The Hilux belongs to Isaias Banner, contractor from San Ignacio.
