By BBN Staff: A contract was signed today for Lot 5 of the Fourth Road Project, which is rehabilitation works within Santa Elena Town, Cayo District.
The Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Works and Transport signed the construction contract with Belize Roadway Construction Ltd. in the amount of BZ$6,968,955.40 to carry out the drainage and pavement rehabilitation works in Santa Elena.
The scope of works includes rehabilitation and drainage improvements of 1,870m on the George Price Highway between Three Flags and Loma Luz Blvd. intersection – Hawksworth Bridge; 160m along Liberty Street; and 1,940m along George Price Avenue between Loma Luz Blvd. intersection and Hawksworth Bridge.
The physical works for the above locations include, but are not limited to, roadway clearance including the removal of any remnant structures (including existing driveway entranceways), fencing and the like within the road reserve, earthworks, construction of concrete box drains, sidewalks with roadside curbs and runoff channels, pavement rehabilitation including the application of double surface dressing, and the installation of road furniture and road user safety features such as line markings, signs and lighting.
GOB through the Ministry of Works, carried out a pre-qualification and competitive bidding exercise, which concluded with the submission and evaluation of bids in July 2017. With this exercise complete, and with the consent of the funding partner (the Caribbean Development Bank) and the no objection from the Ministry of Finance, the construction contract was awarded.
It is anticipated that works will commence immediately and will bring much-needed economic stimulus to the San Ignacio/Santa Elena areas, including employment for residents.
The supervision responsibility lies with the Ministry of Works.
