Attorney General, Michael Peyrefitte, comments on recent move by Ashcroft Alliance

By BBN Staff: We had previously reported that the Ashcroft Alliance had assigned the British Caribbean Bank’s 50 million dollar arbitration award to Midway – a company registered in the British Virgin Islands.

The Government of Belize (GoB) disagrees but the courts in the US have granted the application so that Midway will be able to collect those monies instead of the British Caribbean Bank.

On Friday, the Attorney General, Michael Peyrefitte commented on the matter. According to him GoB objected to that assignment.

He revealed that the issues would not change and that the case has already been decided upon.

He begged the question, “What are you trying to do?” ”You’re trying to hide behind a name?”

According to him, GoB has no jurisdiction over Midway. GoB is of the view that the application granted by the US Courts to Midway was not a sound decision.

According to Peyrefitte on Tuesday he will contact US attorneys and from there strategize what action to take. He hinted that the matter might be appealed in a US Court.
