By BBN Staff: A Corozal Town family of four who lost their 2-bedroom wooden home to a fire that occurred on Saturday, August 26th received assistance today when PUP Mayoral Candidate Rigo Vellos and members of the PUP Town Council slate visited them to deliver food and clothing donations.
Vellos and his team also assisted the family in carrying out a clean-up of dangerous debris.
Vellos has supported the family’s appeal for community help, and has even asked Corozalenos to assist with building material in order to help the family build a home.
On Saturday morning, Zolany Whitaker woke up to find her house covered by thick smoke. She sprang to her feet and quickly went into a room where her 4 year old son was also sleeping.
She was able to run out with her son in her arms, but unable to save any of her material belongings.
Her common-law husband Glen Roches had left the house to take care of a small job in town, when he got the news of a house on fire in his neighborhood. He rushed back home only to find it burning to the ground.
The family is accepting donations of building material, food and clothing.
