By BBN Staff: Prime Minister Dean Barrow is proposing to name a new judge to the Court of Appeal. That judge is Franze Park, a Miami defense lawyer who has a degree in accounting.

However, that proposal by the PM is being totally rejected by the Leader of the Opposition, John Briceno. According to Briceno, Park has only practiced law up to 1980 in the Caribbean. Much has changed since then for the lawyer operating in two different jurisdictions.

According to Briceno he has now been informed that the PM knows Park for a very long time as they were school mates. According to Briceno, Park’s CV is, “very thin.”

He claimed that the constitution outlines that persons appointed to be a judge of the Court of Appeal must be of a, “higher caliber.” Briceno believes that Park does not meet the criteria outlined in the constitution.

While Briceno might have his say, the PM can ultimately have his way.
