By BBN Staff: KREM’s Editor, Marisol Amaya, was today attacked by a ranking police officer during today’s opposition led peaceful protest in Orange Walk.

After the rally in Orange Walk Town, the protestors moved to the Tower Hill Bridge and blocked the bridge. Officers on duty attempted to have them peacefully remove the vehicle blocking the road but when diplomacy failed officers fired tear gas into the crowd causing many to scatter.

Several protesters stayed behind and so did members of the media who wanted footage of the ordeal for their newscasts.

KREM Editor, Marisol Amaya, stayed behind but an officer known to BBN as ‘Gambis’ lifted her and threw her on the road.

While in the middle of the road, another officer motioned as to hit Amaya but her media colleague blocked it.

Amaya was lifted again by ‘Gambis’ and thereafter hauled off the road.

The entire manhandling of the well respected journalist, Marisol Amaya, was caught on camera and will most likely be shown on most local TV news tonight.

Today Amaya posted on Facebook, “I was roughed up by police while covering the PUP’s blockade of the Tower Hill Bridge this morning but to repeat, I am fine.”

This is not the first time Amaya has been manhandled or assaulted. Earlier this year, the UDP’s Yellowman Audinett, attempted to assault her while she was covering the Senate hearing on the Auditor General’s report on the Immigration Department.
