ong>By BBN Staff: The Belize Progressive Party (BPP) has joined the voices of all concerned Belizeans who saw or heard about the man handling of KREMANDALA journalist and editor, Marisol Amaya, who was assaulted by police for no reason while documenting the PUP’s protest at Tower Hill Bridge in Orange Walk.
In its statement, the BPP, “Strongly condemns the actions of those overzealous members of the Force, who overstepped their bounds on this occasion, thus resulting in unnecessary harm to the journalist. We demand an apology be extended to Ms. Amaya and appropriate action be undertaken to hold those responsible for their egregious actions.”
“What transpired, in this case, could conceivable be determined as an assault on not only an individual, but on the entire media and free press in Belize! The BPP demands that this manner of behavior and all forms of intimidation, by way of the government, ceases immediately,” the statement continued.
According to the third party, it acknowledges that our system of, “governance is fast deteriorating amid the yoke of corruption and is in the midst of tyranny.”
The BPP concluded by declaring that in order for the rule of law to be renewed, the input of social partners is critical.
