By BBN Staff: Two police officers are out on bail, after being charged with a single count of extortion.
Magistrate Aretha Ford released 37-year-old Sergeant Lenancio Bol, and 30-year-old Constable Daniel Requena, on bail valued at $2000, for taking an $800 bribe from oneEstefania Gomez. Both men are scheduled to return to court on November 14.
Reports are that Gomez offered the officers bribe money to release three Honduran Women that did not have proper immigration documents. Gomez, who initially offered $600, upped her offer to $800 during a phone conversation with Bol.
A police team on Mark Street, intercepted Bol, shortly after he went to Li Chee Restaurant to pick up the money. Officers recovered some of the money under the police mobile that Bol was driving, and some more of the money in a drain.
Officer commanding Eastern Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Desiree Magdaleno, explained that the department is taking the case and all other instances of police wrong doing seriously.
“It is a policy within the police department that once you are charged criminally for an offence or a crime, we are also dealt with disciplinary under the police code and this case is no exception. That is also being done.”
