By BBN Staff: Police have confirmed that Akeem Augustine, the man recently acquitted for the murder of Ardon Belgrave, was the intended target in the post-jouvert shooting on Saturday morning, where six people were injured.

Superintendent Hilberto Romero, explained that two men on bicycle approached Augustine while he was traveling with a group on Kelly street in the Cinderella Plaza area. One of the two pulled out a gun and opened fire, injuring the entire group, which included four minors: three male and one female.

Augustine who was shot to the right toe; Keith Wallace, 20, was shot to the left foot; the 15 year-old female was shot in her abdomen; one of the male minors, 17, was grazed on the left leg; another male minor, 15, got shot to the leg; and the final male minor, was shot to the right leg and toe.

All of the injured persons were treated and released from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH). Romero added that even with high police presence and a prompt response time, the shooter got away.

“Officers were nearby, but the shooter came very quickly on a bicycle, opened fire and then took off. Officers responded almost immediately, but the shooter had already rode off,” Romero said.

Augustine was acquitted last week, after spending four years and six months on remand with respect to the Belgrave murder. He walked free of the charge when the trial judge decided that the evidence did not amount to a positive identification of Augustine as the gunman.
