Tourism industry launches hurricane relief fund for hurricane victims

By BBN Staff: On Wednesday morning, the Belize Tourism Board (BTB)  along with the Belize Hotel Association (BHA), and the Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) came together to inform the nation that they would collaborate in getting
hurricane relief for Caribbean nations who have been devastated by recent hurricanes.

Noriko Gamero, BTB Director of Cruise and Destination Planning revealed that they want to take the lead in donating a dollar to the relief fund for every tourist arrival this month.

She revealed that the BTB was reaching out to other stakeholders so as to have a multiplier effect.

According to John Burgos, Executive Director of the BTIA, he will encourage BTIA members to donate in the fashion that the BTB has asked and also in other fashions.

Ted Tejada, President of the Hotel Association, revealed that they want to help with whatever they can.

Persons wishing to donate to the relief fund can make deposits at the Heritage Bank under the name Belize Tourism Board Hurricane Relief with account number 9131283.
