By BBN Staff: Yesterday, the Senate Select Committee hearings resumed with testimony from current Director of Immigration Diana Locke.

Locke answered to questions surrounding fake Justice of the Peace stamps and their illegal use for validating people’s length of time in Belize to obtain permanent residency and nationality.

Locke told the hearing that the stamps are checked by the staff and the department is aware of people fraudulently using stamps.

“We have the printouts, so if you are comparing stamps against the printout and they don’t match, then something is wrong. So we are doing more extensive checks. I am not sure what was the practice back then, but clearly now we are doing those checks,” Locke told the committee.

Locke also said that if and when they come across specific recommendations where stamps are used in an illegal manner, they will be reported to the police.
