By BBN Staff: Belize and El Salvador have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for Technical Cooperation in the Area of Security.
The MOU was signed yesterday at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs office at the Laing Building in Belize City.
The MOU is aimed at strengthening cooperation and coordination between both countries with the aim of contributing to citizen security and public safety in the region.
According to a release from the government of Belize, the MOU will function as a bilateral mechanism through which both parties will design, plan and coordinate the development of cooperation in common areas of interest relating to security.
“The MOU takes into consideration the mutual interest of maintaining the principle of shared responsibility as a fundamental element for the continued commitment, collaboration and coordination on issues of mutual interest for the Government of Belize and the Government of the Republic of El Salvador”, the release further states.
Signing on behalf of the Government of Belize was Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Home Affairs and Mr. Mauricio Ramirez Landaverde, Minister of Security and Justice signed for the Republic of El Salvador.
