By BBN Staff: Last night, 47-year-old Eugene Palacio lost his battle with cancer. Palacio was a life-long public officer in Belize. He served his last years and days in the public service as Director of Local Government with responsibility for city and town councils in Belize. He was well respected by both major political parties as he was considered a fair and objective public officer.
Today, Mayor of Orange Walk Town, Kevin Bernard shared his sympathy with the family and spoke highly of Palacio.
“ Eugene was an institution in the Ministry of Local Government, one that may never be replaced. He will be missed. I pray that his family will find comfort in knowing that he was a man respected and appreciated by many in his personal and professional life. May his soul rest in peace,” Bernard stated.
Godfrey Arzu, retired Deputy Comptroller of Customs, who is also Palacio’s cousin says that he was a committed and dedicated public officer all his life.
“Eugene was a very jovial person, he was fun to be around. He was also very professional when it comes to his job and always willing to render assistance. Belize lost a very important and dedicated public officer,” Arzu told BBN.
Palacio leaves behind his wife and two children.
BBN extends condolences to Palacio’s family and friends.
