Fabers Road reconstruction project valued at almost $8 million signed today

By BBN Staff: The construction contract for the Reconstruction of Faber’s Road (between George Price Highway and Central American Boulevard) was signed today, October 12, between the Government of Belize (GOB) and Imer Hernandez Development Co. Ltd. at the office of the Ministry of Works in Belmopan.

The scope of work is the rehabilitation and drainage infrastructure improvement of 1.9km of Faber’s Road.

The civil works for Faber’s Road include, but are not limited to: roadway clearance including the removal of any remnant structures, obstructions, fencing and the like within the road reserve; earthworks; construction of reinforced concrete box drains, sidewalks with roadside curbs and runoff channels; pavement rehabilitation including the construction of a rigid concrete pavement; and the installation of road centerline markings.

GOB issued a release stating that it believes that it is crucial to fast-track the rehabilitation of Faber’s Road, with consideration of the impacts on the road from regular wear and tear, increased traffic loads, infrequent maintenance, city and business expansion, and the unpredictable effects of several tropical storms and hurricanes.

A selective tendering exercise took place; the contractor’s offer was consistent with the engineer’s estimate and current construction rates.

The release states that with no objection from the Contractor General, the construction contract was awarded.

The contract was signed at BZ$7,995,926.40.

It is anticipated that works will commence immediately and will bring much-needed relief to deteriorated road conditions as well as employment for residents of the area.

The supervision responsibility lies with the Ministry of Works.
