By BBN Staff: According to a report from News Americas Now, the Canadian government is warning its citizens to exercise caution in 8 non-hurricane impacted Caribbean nations including Belize.

The warning was reportedly issued because of the crime situation in the countries.

Citizens were warned to be highly cautious and on guard when traveling to Suriname, the Bahamas, Belize, Guyana, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago.

The report briefly outlines the types of crimes committed in the named countries.

In relation to Belize, it states that travelers from Canada to Belize are also being warned to be cautious “due to a high rate of violent crime throughout the country.”

The report cites the warning statement issued by Canada: “Criminal activity, including armed robbery, mugging and sexual assault, is a significant problem throughout Belize.”
