By BBN Staff: Yesterday, the Government of Belize issued a press release informing Belizeans that GOB through the Ministry of Works will begin reconstruction of Fabers Road.

The contract for the reconstruction was awarded to Imer Hernandez and Company and is valued at $7,995,926.40 Belize dollars.

Since the release, many Belizeans have been expressing their displeasure with the decision to award the contract to the nephew of disgraced former Minister of Natural Resources, Gaspar Vega. The value of the contract and process in which Hernandez was awarded the contract has also come to question.

BBN has obtained copies of a letter sent by the law firms of Musa and Balderamos acting on behalf of Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action ( COLA) to the Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Works, Errol Gentle.

COLA is requesting the documents for the tendering process under the Freedom of Information Act.

COLA makes three significant requests including a request to see the contract that was signed yesterday between GOB and Hernandez, all the tenders submitted for consideration in the selective tendering exercise which took place as stated in the Government’s press release and the consent of the contractor general to awarding the contract as stated in Government’s press release.

Vision Inspired by the People (VIP also issued a release today demanding that the contract be rescinded and citing that the contract was awarded in contrary to the finance and audit reform act.
