Man crushed to death by 18 Wheeler Truck

By BBN Staff: Yesterday afternoon around 2:45, police visited miles 35 on the George Price Highway where a white eighteen wheeler Kenworth towhead truck bearing license plate OWA-4407 and a cargo trailer attached to it bearing license plate OW-T00183 was parked partially off the road on the right hand side facing Belmopan City.

The body of Elroy Jones of Belize City was seen motionless logged under the trailer wheel.

Initial investigation revealed that Cornelius Schmitt,19, a Belizean Truck driver of Spanish Lookout Village was driving the truck whilst Jones and other workers picked up bagged garbage.

Jones who was along with the group had accidentally slipped from the truck and fell under the wheel and was crushed.

Jones was taken to the Western regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 5:00 pm and his body now awaits a postmortem examination.

Schmitt has been issued a notice of intended persecution.

Police are investigating.
