By BBN Staff: Community activist group Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action (COLA) is prepared to pursue legal action against the Government of Belize (GOB), over the contract for the rehabilitation of Faber’s Road.

COLA president Giovanni Brackett and his attorney Kareem Musa, held a press conference today, saying that GOB has two weeks to respond to their request for disclosure of the contract information.

Musa said that COLA is prepared to file for an injunction barring the continued construction works pending a judicial review of the tendering process used in awarding the contract.

Musa explained that under the Finance and Audit Reform Act, GOB should have subjected the contract, valued at almost $8 million, to a national tendering process.

COLA, under the Freedom of Information Act, has requested a copy of the contract, a list of all the bids submitted for the contract, and a copy of the consent given by the Contractor General.
