By BBN Staff: Some concerned residents of Caye Caulker contacted BBN to share their concern and displeasure with some dredging that is being done on the beach.
According to the residents, the local authorities had denied a recommendation but it is carrying on anyway.
The dredging is pouring on the San Pedro Belize Express Dock, which is about 4 miles away from the Belize Barrier Reef.
Reports to BBN is that the area representative of Belize Rural South gave the permission for the dredging since the Caye Caulker village council had initially denied it.
“All that silt is going towards the reef which will destroy the reef. It is really horrible,” the residents told us.
