Anyone can access your birth certificate says Assistant Registrar

By BBN Staff: Patricia Hinkson, the Assistant Registrar at the Vital Statistics Unit has left the general public feeling even more concerned than ever following her testimony before the Senate Select Committee.

Hinkson revealed that given the mechanisms in place or lack thereof at the Vital Statistics Office, anyone can access your birth certificate.

“That is just the rule anybody can apply for a birth certificate,” she said.

According to her, the applicant doesn’t need an authorization from the person whose documents he or she is requesting.

All the applicant has to present to the unit is an identification card and thereafter they can access anyone’s information.

However, the system will indicate which officer conducted the process and when.
