Man who murdered wife suffered from schizophrenia

By BBN Staff: A man convicted of the murder of his common law wife and serving a life in prison sentence has been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

He is Jason Lawrence, 40.

On December 4, 2009, he murdered his wife Mercedes Carillo, 40, inside their home in Burrell Boom village.

She was stabbed five times at the stroke of midnight.

Lawrence’s attorney, Yohanseh Cave, is appealing his conviction in the Court of Appeal.

The matter has been heard but the court has not yet issued a ruling.

According to Amandala’s Rowland Park, Lawrence was examined by British Psychologist Dr. Latham who diagnosed him with schizophrenia.

So all indications are that he might be out of prison sooner than expected.
