By BBN Staff: Activist Justin Usher was charged on Monday for allegedly assaulting a police officer after an incident that occurred on Saturday. Usher has since claimed he is being targeted over rumors that he is running for political office, which he says is false.

In an interview with Channel 5 News, Usher said there are rumors he is a part of the PUP’s City Council slate. He denied being politically connected adding that he simply stands against corruption as an activist for change and development of youths in Belize. Usher told Channel 5 he believes the police department is trying to discredit him and ruin his reputation.

Last week Police Constable, Crystal Noralez, attached to Eastern Police Division North Strike Team, reported that while she was on duty at the Sit and Sip Lounge along with other police officers, when Usher started behaving disorderly while leaving the club. According to Noralez, Usher started demanding that police return his cap and using foul language directed at the officers.

Even though Usher was told that his friends had his cap, he continued to behave disorderly, according to Noralez. Usher then allegedly punched WPC Noralez to the lower left chin.
